Alan Brookes’ father was a great fan of Hawaiian music.
Alan has always been a country music lover. He was brought up with the sounds of the steel guitar.
His first lap steel build was in 1963 from an old door it incorporated Meccano parts and an old RAF microphone under the bridge. It had a movable magnetic pickup which slid from one position to another along model railway rail. The frets were balsa struts.
Over the years Alan has built many lap and console steels, no two have ever been alike. He likes to experiment designing his own instruments.
